A nice surprise at the official relaunch of Retro Prestige Motorcycles. The evening started, as one might expect on a Cape Town week night, with a relaxed gathering of friends and industry colleagues sipping craft beer and cappuccino while milling about the store and workshop, checking out the new builds and merchandise. Many of the invites included a call for unique motorcycles to join in but I didn’t expect anything quite so arresting.
And arrest she did. ‘Sic CBX’ is Johan Erasmus’ concept and if you spend any time on social media you would certainly have glimpsed her before. Of course the six cylinder CBX from Honda is more than just just a visual feast and we were treated to the characteristic but seldom heard howl of an approaching legend as we mingled outside in the cool evening air.
Striking. As good as this build looks at first glance, it only gets better on closer inspection with every detail dutifully managed and no expense spared whatsoever. This had to be documented so i asked Johan if he would mind rolling her into the workshop so everybody could see her under lights and hopefully I could get a few photographs…. no mean feat as the moment he parked up ‘Sic CBX’ was surrounded and swamped with people trying to take in all the details.
Look again. Thirty minutes later and the workshop was still full of bodies, craning and ducking and turning upside down for a closer look as Johan held court, fielding the many questions that require answers when showing up on a machine of this caliber.
Sublime. Everything from the switchgear, to the Simoncelli homage paint work, to the dainty tubular frame and the even more fragile looking sub-frame with it’s adjustable rake – caféracer today, streetfighter tomorrow.
