It’s kind of difficult to pin this one down but after much introspection i’ve landed at repli-custo… -mod..? Genre defying surely but in the end it’s a custom GS in the Paris-Dakar style from well known (in the Cape Town scene anyway) enthusiast Mark Johnston.
It doesn’t take an expert too see that what we have here is the love child of an old BMW, a ’82 R80GS to be precise and a new KTM. Purists from both marques would probably recoil in horror but aesthetically it’s a marriage made in heaven.
A fully modern cockpit view and electronics suite to go with that over-kill style front suspension although the engine capacity has been pumped to 1000cc using a kit from one of our suppliers, Siebenrock. The torque mark on the stem nut is a nice touch alluding to the attention to detail, they’re all over the bike.
The tank is a long range unit from German outfit HPN Motorrad, note the fuel gauge on the leading edge and also the mesh insert on the front mudguard.
All in all an excellent example of just one of the builds coming out of Cape Town’s growing new-school scene.
